Why Are There No Litter Bins On The Harbour?

People often raise this question with harbour staff, so here’s the answer. For many years we collected and disposed of litter arising from the sale of various shop products. We provided recycling bins and daily cleared away any rubbish dropped.

From time to time we asked the shops to help pay for litter collection, but met with limited enthusiasm. In 2015 we paid for 52 skips of rubbish to be removed and were looking at a bill for £25,000. At that point we realised we could no longer afford to fund rubbish removal.

Visitors are now kindly requested to return any litter they may have to the point of purchase, where the shops provide their own bins.
