Recycling

Mevagissey Harbour environmental initiatives were recently highlighted in an article appearing in The Western Morning News. Odyssey International chose Mevagissey Harbour as the launch site for their fishing net recycling operation, having last month collected significant quantities of disused nets from us. Mevagissey Harbour also recycles all used oil, steel and wood with the aim of reducing to a minimum the amount of waste going to landfill or incinerator. In 2015 we produced 52 skips each containing around 8 cubic metres of waste, but by 2018 we had reduced this to 6 skips. Recycling makes sound economic as well as environmental sense, because former waste disposal options have now become prohibitively expensive.
