Island Beach Project

In Q1 2024 Mevagissey Harbour will commence on works to improve access onto Island
Beach.

This area has been little used over the last few years due to the deterioration of the
existing steps, this improved access will involve the construction of a slipway starting
at harbour surface height and running downwards along the back of the wall then
turning 90 degrees to the bedrock of the beach. The slipways will have handrails
along the length from top to bottom.

The scheme will enable safe access for swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding as well
as general and disabled access to a little used beach area, weather permitting.
It is hoped that the use of the facility will be enjoyed by both local residents and
tourists alike whilst keeping these recreational activities outside of the commercial
port itself.

The project has been supported by Cornwall Levelling Up Program’s
Shared Prosperity Fund and match funding from Mevagissey Harbour Trustees along
with some private donations.
