Mevagissey harbour is the venue for the annual Mevagissey Rowing Club Regatta next Saturday. Some 450 rowers from as far afield as Portishead will provide exciting racing in their traditional Cornish Pilot Gigs. Club Secretary Martin Walton will call the crews to the water and broadcast the results for all the many classes of races over the kite shaped 1.5 mile course. Spectators can easily view the races, especially the starts and finishes. Top teams from Falmouth, Coverack and Fowey, and of course Mevagissey will be joined by at least another dozen clubs competing for the trophies. In addition, a special trophy will be awarded to the team which deserves it most, based on the number of races entered, the spirit in which they enter, their helpfulness on the day, etc.
This is a spectacular Cornish event. There will be a Cornish Fish Fry by our own Billy Moore, a Hog Roast, and bacon baps for sale. Following the awards ceremony there will be an evening of singing and a disco in The Fountain Inn.
The Regatta starts at 12.00pm on the East Quay in Mevagissey on Saturday 20th July.
